The present thesis I analyze the formal-structural phenomenon of the so-called gaita rhythm”, a traditional style of the long duct flute music of the Montes de María, in northern Colombia. In this research I reveal through musical analysis and personal interviews with gaiteros heirs of tradition and researchersthe meaning of some symbolisms, which are assumed to be implicit in their composition and musical interpretation. In order to understand this meaning, I focus my analysis on the traditional compositions inspired by the birds of the Montemariano from the perspective explained above, the mixed work Del salto al vuelo, del vuelo al hombre ave (Corzo, 2020) is analyzed, conceptualized and formalized.

The aim of this article is to revalue and update some of the concepts that support this musical practice, possibly leading to new research linking the logic of compositional cosmogenesis with traditional Latin American music and avant-garde compositions in the American territory.
